Just a quick note of other bands i've seen this month that are worth a shout:
Casiokids
Those Dancing Days
Screaming Tea Party
Friendly Fires (Kings College, London) - the debut album live set the room alight
Liquid Liquid - danced in my sit like a crazy fool. great to see them back together and performing right in front of my (and Jack's) eyes.

Emiliana and Me
It's been a while since i've updated my blog as it's been a mad few weeks but i'm back!
I've waited a very long time to see this artist perform but last night i finally got to see Icelandic singer/songwriter/songstress Emiliana Torrini. She was playing in St Giles Church and the beautiful venue suited the beautiful voice of this talented young lady. With the recent release of her 3rd English album 'Me and Armini', Emiliana seems to finally be getting the attention she deserves. The songs on this album grow on you quickly and you'll be singing along to the 'Big Jumps' before you know it. The more you listen to the well crafted songwriting (her songwriting partner is Dan Carey and together they also wrote Kylie's 'Slow') the more you appreciate this amazing talent. She sings like an angel and in between songs she talks to the crowd and is very, very funny and has the whole church laughing. She sings practically the whole of this new album and a few songs from previous release 'Fisherman's Woman'. The haunted sound of the songs echo through the church and i also must note how good her band are bringing each song to life.
The funniest story she tells is when she posed for a guitar magazine in order to claim a free guitar and how they think she played guitar on her 2nd English album 'Fisherman's Woman'. It's only afterwards they realise she can't even play guitar but still she has a really nice guitar (that a member of her band is playing tonight).
I look forward to seeing Emiliana live again soon preferably in her hometown of Iceland (that would be amazing). She is a gifted little lady and i look forward to album number four.....

Slight change of plan
I hear that tomorrow's gig - 'moshi moshi night', that the line up has slighty changed. i think stricken city, casiokids and your twenties are no longer playing so instead i'll be heading down to 'those dancing days' and 'casiokids' at camden barfly. i am yet to check out 'those dancing days' live, only ever seen them perform 2 songs in session at work so i'm really looking forward to hearing their new album 'in our space hero suits' live. it's a great little album and will be out 6th october on witchita. did anyone else get the free wichita sampler with plan b magazine recently? love it!!!
supporting them will be 'casiokids' from bergen. i recently got their album 'fuck midi' off itunes and it's another great album so hopefully they will sparkle live and there will lots of casio keyboards. will keep you posted.

Fontan Fontan please
From Gothenberg, this electronic duo (Johan and Jesper) released their single 'Early Morning' in July and you can also get the easily on itunes but it's a great track and i'll be keeping my eyes on these. they have a couple of live dates coming up in Sweden but nothing in the UK as yet. The single is also backed with a Metronomy track reworking and also a Mountain of One reworking (LOOK OUT FOR MY REVIEW OF 'MOUNTAIN OF ONE' - they are playing this Thursday at the Moshi Moshi night so i may well have to ask them about Fontan)

The Ruling Class and HeartsRevolution
Sept 20th - The Monarch, Chalk Farm Road
I'd previously heard about The Ruling Class whilst i was surfing the Club Fandango website and looking forward to their series of gigs (fistful of fandango) taking place over 6 days at 229 great portland street in london. I stumbled upon their myspace and after hearing their new single 'flowers', felt like i was transported back to baggy jeans and back through brit pop to the days of early stone roses, field mice, primal scream and the cure (not my words but their influences). could this be a one off with 'flowers'?? i decided to head down to the gig and check them out for real. the band really have a vintage sound going on with an arrogant lead singer and moody bass/guitar players and a drummer so similar to keith moon it felt far too strange at times...however don't get me wrong, this is no bad thing and they also have cracking tunes too. the band will be touring with 'the charlatans' in October and i'm much looking forward to their album and their whereabouts over the next few months and hopefully much much longer....
the gig here tonight in the monarch, camden, is a pretty packed affair and also gets the crowd swaying from side to side as the ruling class take to the stage. it's good to see i'm not the only one who is slowly getting to know the lyrics to their songs. whatever you do check out 'flowers' and the rest of the songs on www.myspace.com/therulingclassuk.
i hope to hear great things from them soon as i wait patiently for the debut album.
i decide to stick around for the next band, the headliners here tonight. they are called 'heartsrevolution'. they hail from NEW YORK and they really know how to cause a rave (well i didn't really look around me but that's how it felt just watching their energy onstage). Sounding like a mix mash up between Crystal Castles/digitalism/metromony led by a Karen O clone with the pink mask effect make up, look out for these guys on the next kitsune compilation and they will also be back playing all over the UK as part of the Kitsune tour. they also featured in the nme's top future 50...ooohhhh check them out :). just check out their myspace for more details and they can be found out at www.myspace.com/heartsrevolution
coming up on my little lost musical treasures blog soon - review of the moshi moshi night with a mountain of one, casiokids, striken city and your twenties
play it by ear club night featuring a-human, mama shamone and my toys like me (sat 27th, the monarch, chalk farm road)
